Instructions to Authors
Submitting a manuscript
Extracta Mathematicae (E.M.) accepts original research papers in any of the areas listed in Covered areas. E.M. is also open to consider the publication of high-quality survey papers. The extension of the works is not limited, but usually it is below 30 pages.
To submit a paper, authors are requested to send their contributions in a single PDF file to extracta@unex.es or to secimuex@unex.es, including a cover letter and a suggestion about which member of the Editorial Board the author feels could handle the paper. If the work is accepted for its publication, a Latex version will be asked for, so that the Editorial Staff can adapt it to the E.M. editing standards.
Manuscripts must be written in English, although the Editors may exceptionally consider manuscripts written in other languages. Papers must contain title, authors, their affiliation, an abstract, the 2020 Mathematics Subject Classification and between two and ten keywords. Moreover, it is expected that articles contain a good introduction and an up-to-date bibliography. Bibliographical references should be written following the usual standards of the mathematical community that are used, for example, on the references listed on Zentralblatt or MathSciNet. The Editorial Staff will adjust the format to E. M. standars, which can be consulted in the last published numbers. The list of references should be ordered alphabetically by surname of the first author; placed at the end of the paper, and each item should include complete bibliographical data. All references in the bibliography should be cited, at least once, in the text. Do not use footnotes or endnotes as a substitute for a reference list.
Selection process
The selection process will follow the COPE Code of Conduct. In particular, it is understood that a paper submitted to E.M. has not been published previously and that the same work is not simultaneously under consideration in any other journal. Moreover, all the authors listed in the paper must have significantly contributed to the research, and they will provide retractions or corrections of mistakes, if necessary.
All papers submitted to E.M. will be refereed. After an initial screening process performed by the Executive Board, each submission to E.M. is assigned to either a member of the Editorial Board, or to an independent referee under the supervision of a member of the Executive Board, who will evaluate, in blind peer review, if the work makes significant original contributions and if the presentation and structure is adequate. If the process concludes with a positive recommendation accepted by the Executive Board, the final published (online and printed) copy will contain a declaration “Presented by” stating the member or members of the Executive or Editorial Board (or, eventually, an independent referee) which have managed the process. Upon acceptance, a LaTeX version of the submitted document will be required to the authors.
In case of conflict of interest, the members of the Executive or Editorial Board in conflict are excluded from the process. Particularly, E.M. uses a Double-Blind Peer Review process for papers submitted by a member of the Editorial Team.
Publication in E.M. is free from processing, submission or page charges, and all papers are freely available to read.
Appeals and complaints
Any appeal or complaint about scientific content will be handled by the Editor-in-Chief or Handling Editor, who will consider the author's arguments, the reports from the referees, and will recommend the executive Board to accept or reject the appeal. An independent opinion could be required by the Editor or the Executive Board. Finally, the Executive Board will take a final decision and the author will be informed.
If the appeal or complaint is about the procedure, it will be handled by a member of the Editorial Team designated by the Editor-in-Chief. The complainant will be given appropriate feedback, and the Executive Board will receive that feedback in order to improve the procedures and take the final decisions.

E.M. is published under a Creative Commons License Attribution-Non Commercial 3.0 Unported, and the authors retain the copyright so they can use their papers as they consider convenient.
E.M. assumes the open access policy of the University of Extremadura, which adheres to the principles of the open access movement and the Berlin Declaration. It is thus understood that the authors of the papers published in E.M. authorize its inclusion in the repositories DEHESA (institutional repository of the University of Extremadura), and Dialnet.
